UNDER THREE’S CURRICULUM POLICY

As soon as children are born, they thrive on learning about the world around them. As they grow, their ability to learn grows with them. The National Curriculum provides children with opportunities to broaden their learning abilities. We aim to promote all areas of the National Curriculum to children from an early age.

· Language and Literacy: We involve children in singing and music, games and puzzles, group discussions and a quiet area for stories and reading. There will be opportunities to do free writing, ie in imaginative play, telephone messages, shopping lists etc.

· Mathematics: We provide equipment, which encourages children to add and subtract, identify different shapes and sizes and different volumes and capacities as well as singing number songs.

· Knowledge and understanding of the world: We aim to teach our children all about nature and wildlife using a variety of resources. Books, displays, dressing up and cooking will be used to each children about different cultures and religions.

· Physical development: We provide a large outdoor area where children can practice their physical skills using bats and balls, hoops, bikes and music and movement tapes indoors.

· Fine motor skills: We have a variety of equipment such as duplo, building bricks, jigsaw puzzles, activity centres, a train set etc.

· Creative development: We feel it is vital that children use their creative ability to help express their emotions through painting, collage, drawing and sticking as well as messy activities such as shaving foam, spaghetti, cornflour, playdough, sand etc.

We feel it is important that we provide an education for children, which is learned through play, covering all the areas stated above.
